USB-C power delivery (USB-C PD) is quickly becoming the go-to standard for powering a ton of different devices, making it a must-have for anyone into tech. Personally, I use a 99 watt-hour USB-C battery, which is just right for airline rules, so I can travel without any issues. This handy battery powers my phone, laptop, Steam Deck, external hard drives, and a bunch of other gadgets. One of the coolest things about my battery is that it shows real-time info on the power and voltage being used by the connected device. This is super helpful because it lets me know if my device is charging as fast as it should be or if there's a problem like a bad cable or connection. When I travel, having just one small charger and battery cuts down on weight and saves space in my backpack, making packing way easier. My laptop and Steam Deck have 40Wh batteries, so my USB-C battery can charge them more than twice. Plus, my phone's battery is only 9Wh, so I can recharge it over ten times before needing to recharge the battery.
Even though my laptop has a USB-C port, it can't charge through it. So, how do I charge it with USB-C? The answer is all the different USB-PD adapters out there that work with almost any DC power jack. After some digging, I found an adapter with a nice long cable that works great with my stuff, letting me use USB-C power delivery for my laptop.
There are also some cool adapters that can turn your old laptop chargers into extra USB-C power sources, giving you even more charging options. My USB-C battery can output or charge at a solid 65 watts. While my battery might be a bit much for the average person, I think it's a great deal for what it can do. It's also a universal V-Mount & P-Tap battery, popular in the film and video world for running cameras, lights, and other gear. This is super handy for me because it can also power my camera stuff in a pinch. Plus, it can charge at an impressive 135 watts with a standard V-Mount charger, making it super efficient and fast.
